Think before you start devouring your food. Imagine this, we spend quite a fortune [if not, a bit] on the food we eat during the yuletide season.

Every year, millions of tons of leftovers are wasted.  Appetites are satisfied, high-calorie indulgences are common and pig-out spots are fastidious of their menu. Think about half of the people in the world, malnourished or starved to death. Nothing to eat, they lie miserably on the ground, waiting for ‘grace’. Whilst the rest are longing for love and warmth of a Christmas… Abandoned for good, all they have is their cry for companionship, understanding and happiness.

Be thankful that you are able to eat thrice or more a day. Be happy that in your state, you can afford honey-glazed ham, Bolognese fettuccini, Pastries and eau e Toilette gifts. BE SENSITIVE. For not everyone can enjoy these festivities. It may sound hypocritical, but a bit less would do this season.

“SIGNOS”: My reaction. [Reaction Paper 1]

The seven-part documentary was enlightening. Since the issues brought about the effects of climate change; local scenarios- typhoons, drought, heat waves etc. [I’ve watched the Inconvenient Truth and no offense, if you have a global perspective and an objective mind, you’d understand it by heart… but if you’re like one of the people who cares less about the world and prefers watching soaps and being adamant and all, this documentary would work on you. Depends if you can digest it well.]

The issues were REAL. The only problem is that they emphasized and exaggerated the the possible ‘impending-doom!’ situations. Rather than focusing on informing the public of prevention and precautionary measures, they just SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF PEOPLE. Surely, threats like that would force us to do immediate action [Like what the colonial friars did to discourage revolts. “YOU’LL BURN IN HELL! PRAY! DO NOT SIDE WITH THE DEVIL!”] Instantaneous protocols are not effective when it comes to reducing our carbon footprint. [If you’re planning to do it long term.]

Sad part of this documentary is that they didn’t fully point out the fault. Probably, because their sponsors, the ‘authority’ above them or their arrogant selves; they were part of the corporate entity that runs unsustainable businesses. It’s very disappointing to see HYPOCRISY on national television.

The fault: The advancement of technology and economic growth paired up with the inability to sustain a healthy environment.

The attitude problem of wanting something [even though you don’t need it.] and wanting it more is what we should all avoid. Or rather, to eradicate completely in our mind set. As consumers, we are making wastes in exchange of using/gobbling up something. We all think it’s a GIVE-RECEIVE game. [Look, there’s billions of people in this planet, nature cannot heal itself with the waste and demand of those 6 or 7 billion. The moment we chop off her trees, burn her gases, devour every animal… it takes nature centuries or MILLIONS of years to fully recover.]

We have the responsibility because we can control the effects of our irresponsibility. For example, buying a piece of individually packaged candy from vendors; you are unable to to find the nearest waste bin. You decided to just simply throw it away. Seeing that the people around you are doing it, you join in. [Or if you’re too lazy to search for a trash can, you thought it was a hassle. Insert your other crappy reasons if you’re still denying that you do this on a regular basis.]

PEOPLE SHOULD START THINKING ABOUT THIS: Before throwing away your garbage, think about what will happen if it’s not properly disposed. Think about the several million other people doing the same shit. Thus clogging the sewages, giving us a hard time by flooding roads, the sidewalks would end up smelly, dirty and afterwards, stagnated puddles/water sources will be the homes of mosquitoes and other parasites that plague the metro with diseases and epidemics. [Tapos ang lakas ng loob mag-reklamo, akala mo kung sino. Look, blaming someone or something for what you did wrong… very irritating, IT WAS YOU who brought yourself to your demise.]

Everybody is a suspect as well as a potential victim. Unless we all realize that we can help in our own little ways. Instead of delaying the death of Earth, think of it as an act of making Earth live and breathe well once more.
